Survivors Who Thrive: Dr. Tomekia Luckett

As we start the new year, we'd like to take the time out to celebrate some of the survivors in our tribe. Today, we'd like to introduce you to Tomekia Luckett PhD RN from Summit, MS.

A Little About Dr. Luckett

Tomekia Yvette Luckett PhD, RN the daughter of Chester Luckett and the late Mollie Knox is blessed and highly favored of the Lord! She is a native of McComb, MS. She is the mother of 21-year-old triplet sons Tamerrious, Tamerrion, and Tamerrick. She grew up in a single parent household in the White Acres housing project located in McComb, MS. Through firsthand experience, she is aware of the blessings of God and power of prayer.

She is an assistant professor of nursing, author, empowerment speaker, and certified life coach. Dr. Luckett graduated from Southwest MS Community College in 2001 and obtained an associate degree in nursing. She later returned to school in November 2010 where she pursued a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in nursing at William Carey University. She completed her Ph.D. in Nursing Leadership at the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated May 2017.

She's A Survivor Because

As a child I grew up in single parent household in the projects. I finished high school and then became a single mother of triplets. I went to nursing school with medically fragile triplets. I was in a domestic violence relationship 15 years ago and almost lost my life at the hands of my abuser. My face was disfigured for months as I had a broken nose, two black eyes and a fractured orbit. My face healed. I later returned to school and pursued my BSN, MSN, and PhD. During the last months of my PhD study my husband passed away unexpectedly. I took time away, and God still allowed me to finish my degree. Truly with God all things are possible.
