Standing Up for Our Hair, Health, and Identity With Ofori Beauty
When I first sat down to talk with Daniella, Founder of Canadian based beauty brand, Ofori Beauty, we had such a sincere connection. I think that it's take for granted in many women, how much our hair plays a part in our lives. From how others perceive us, to how we perceive ourselves, hair plays a major role in a woman's life and self-esteem.
For Me, it definitely did. I can easily remember a time when showing My natural hair felt like one of the most embarrassing things in the world. Whenever it wasn't past My shoulders, I felt I had to explain why. Since starting My locs in 2015, I've seen not only a change in My hair, but also in My everyday confidence. I look in the mirror these days and see Myself, and love her, never once considering if My hair is "appropriate". It feels so freeing.
When Daniella gave Me the opportunity to join her 21-day summit of Black women talking , hair, health and wholeness, I was honored. I love sharing how My hair journey goes hand in hand with Me mental health journey. The summit started yesterday, but it's not too late to sign up and join in on the conversation.
